Phil Moyer doing COPA photoshoot

Phil Moyer alias Santa!

Phil Moyer began his acting career as the voice of the “old timer”, recording stories for his schoolteacher wife, Sharon. He had no desire to be in front of an audience!

He was helping Sharon rehearse a show with no intention of performing because he was scheduled to be on the job. The day of the performance, work was rained out. He had no excuse not to perform. The enthusiasm of the crowd was magic to him. To feel successful in front of an audience made him feel very good about himself. His career was launched.

Sharon’s school supported a sister city in La Mesa, Mexico. They took books and school supplies and toys and, of coarse, a Santa Claus to distribute them. The Santa was unavailable and Phil became the replacement with a mangy beard and wrinkled suit. Since beginning his Santa carreer for the Lion’s Club in the 1990’s, he performs at selected charities, schools, private parties, corporations and for other groups.

He is a member of the Amalgamated Real Bearded Santas with a membership of over 500. Their yearly convention will meet this July in Branson, MO.

As a valued volunteer of COPA, Phil wears many hats. He is a photographer, builder (of anything needed), organizer, cook, go-fer and member of the board.  He is valued for his many creative ideas and problem solving abilities.

A SAD APRIL 2007 FOR COPA

Members of COPA are saddened by the passing of first Sharon and then
Phil Moyer a week later. We will miss their friendship, good spirit
and joy of life.

They were an inseparable couple. Their activities included puppetry,
the Renaissance Faire, the Dickens Festival and their delightful
appearances as Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus.

As members of the COPA Board, they could always be counted on to
pitch in wherever needed. The organization will not be the same
without them.
